Anohni’s darkest, most compelling experimental electronic record to date.
Listen to The First Single “4 Degrees” Here
Anohni is most well known as the lead singer and songwriter for Antony and the Johnsons. Her previous efforts encompass themes driven by politically charged lyrics and dark, engrossing content. HOPELESSNESS is no exception, harnessing electronic sound-scapes paired with soulful vocals addressing surveillance, drone warfare, and ecocide.
“‘4 Degrees’ is kind of a brutal attempt to hold myself accountable, not just valorize my intentions but also reflect on the true impact of my behaviors.” - ANOHNI
HOPELESSNESS represents a commentary on human behavior in current times. Destruction of the environment, killing of humans in the name of security through use of drones and other automated technologies, and surveillance of peoples’ actions without consent are topics all covered by the lyrics. Whether or not these positions resonate on a personal level, the concepts, coupled with beautiful electronic instrumentation, creates a deeply moving and thought provoking experience that should not be missed.
“The record is as different as could be from my previous work:
I am not sure that many of you who prefer the early chamber music style will enjoy it! It is a dance / experimental electronic record with quite a dark thematic undertow. It is an album I felt very compelled to produce." -ANOHNI

Dark and Compelling Thought Piece on Modern Society
ANOHNI (the artist formerly known as Antony Hegarty) has offered an update on HOPELESSNESS, her forthcoming record co-produced with Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never.
HOPELESSNESS will have several music videos and the live show will be "very unconventional," according to Anohni. "I want to explore my voice as separated from my body, and employ avatars to represent my body," she said.
Tour dates will be announced in coming months, but for now, Anohni, Hudson Mohawke, and Oneohtrix Point Never have confirmed performances at SONAR in Barcelona, Colors of Ostrava in Ostrava, and the Flowers Festival in Italy.
